i'm WAY behind on listening...i think the last three...i'll catch up soon enough...
as for rr's final comment last week...yes, i was 10 minutes away for the better part of two and a half weeks...it was call the mental convalescense tour for a reason...the first week i spent working on a deadline...i left the house for more pepsi and the occassional dinner at missy's...the second week i spent all by myself at the beach...writing, thinking, reading and relaxing...and working in the garden with mom and dad so they didn't have to do any hard labor or heavy lifting...i indulged the rest of the world one night when i went out to hear some live jazz with mom and dad and jim tullio...all totaled, the only people who saw me more than once (aside from my family) was the guy at dino's subs and the lifeguard at knight street...
it was all about turning off my brain...or at least turning off the outside world for a little while...

It's interesting for me to hear "I need to catch up with the listening". All things considered, I'm requesting we go to a bi-weekly cast after 200 at this point to make it easier for all. Den, this is your creation, so you have the final say. I argue that we just are not here as much these days, and none of us want to stop the process we've all come to love so much. Let's cut it down and do longer episodes rather than quit. If anyone else wants to get in and make episodes on a regular basis speak now, otherwise.... let's keep it going with the "less is more attitude". Your thoughts?
i'm ok with the bi-weekly thing...while i always enjoy the listening part, it's the blog that i enjoy the most...the interaction, the ball busting, the moments of enlightenment...as long as it keeps going and isn't a burden on anyone (especially den and jeff), i'm cool with whatever format works best...
I say we just kill the podcast...we can always start a new blog/web forum somewhere else. I bored with this..
The podcast was started as a way for us to share music with each other. I think we've done that 100 times over. We can still share tunes through some sort of forum and Jeff and I won't have to play DJ every two weeks.
Maybe we can get something happening on the Javelin web site again?

I was hoping to instead of make episodes, go and get the site into better shape. One thing I'd love to do is have a library there of everyone's tunes.... every single song! That would be fun.
Going bi-weekly would be better than nothing in my opinion, or at least until we figure out how to do the coding to have episodes on the site or something similar.
Biweekly would mean once a month create a cast, and we'd have the time to slowly accumulate the material we wanted for the month. That would probably make it more interesting to produce and listen to.
And another idea, which might be the best, could be that we just post something every 2 weeks (here or on the website if we can). Anything, that is, from one song to a block of one band, or all covers or just a friends band or a gig.... get out of the normal format and just post anything, a tune your working on or ANYTHING! As long as we keep a regular schedule.

Ok, let's vote on it....like we do when someone is about to get kicked out.

JBA: choice #2

I'm actually with Den on killing the cast as it is, but want to just keep posting here every couple of weeks until we develop something else.
If Den doesn't want to keep posting anything, that's up to him. We cant hold each other to do shit we don't want to do can we? Den?
I will be willing to post something every month (although I'm not sure exactly what). Hell it could be a phone conversation such as Den's stuff with Gary or interviewing my Republican neighbor etc. etc...... I think we're bored with the format, not the interactions or sharing. As I suggested, we could post anything... a "show and tell" of sorts for the time being until we develop something with the site. That would mean Matt could post some stuff too. I'm dying to hear the live stuff he's doing and without the pressure of having to make a "cast" as we know them, he could easily just post a single song or 2 and be done with it.
I'm not sure what the website potential is (what will we do there?) and I'm not sure if Den's itching to get out of libsyn, but I suspect so, since he's said that previously. What will that mean?
Concluding, my vote is NOT for a biweekly podcast as we know it, but rather for a biweekly post of anything.... it could still be called a podcast however, but we'd stop numbering them as to indicate the 200th episode concluded our pursuit of the original format and now we're moving on.
I hope that makes it clear for my wishes and also please note that I'm not inflexible about anything. I'm hoping just to move forward someway, and the above is one suggestion how we could.

Here's what I'd like to see:
No more podcasting. #200 will be the last episode and I'll pay Libsyn for one additional month after that.
Figure out how to put a web forum on javelin-band.com where we can post comments just like here AND upload files of anything we want. The problem with this is I can't add this stuff to the web site myself. I have no idea how and have no web editing software since I moved to a Mac. There has to be an easy way rather than writing all kinds of code. Maybe IPADM can help with this.
In the meantime, I think JBA should post 199 in TWO WEEKS and I'll post #200 two weeks after that. That will give us some extra time and we can end this on an even number.

Sounds reasonable to me, and since you and I are the "worker bees" here I'm guessing that's the final word.
As for the site, I'll figure out how to set up a blog and you're right, IPADM might be able to help.
I think I have adobe golive for mac. I'll check and if I do I'll sen you the install CD.
I'll help you post anything you want. You'll just modifiy a .html file using a text editor at worst, and then FTP it back to the host. No biggie.
Can we make the last 2 podcasts larger than usual file size?

Hey Den, check this out see what you think, we can RSS this too:

OK John. I'll make a "choice" although I firmly believe that as the least contributor (interesting parallel) my opinion shouldn't matter but I appreciate the gesture. I choose choice 1 assuming that you guys can make it work with your techno magic.
It's obvious that interest in the pod cast has diminished and that some of you guys have moved on to different forum anyway. Maybe we can find a different way to keep in touch and listen to the continuing story.
Hope your satisfied Mr. Miller.

wow I figured it out if you want it it's the letters for the word guitar in lower case just as you just saw it, followed by a percent sign and then the word florida with the first 3 letters in caps,.. all together that is with no spaces. the username is javelinband. That is what you will need to to FTP dumps.
Why don't we just use Blogger? We can set up a blog that has each one of us as a contributor. We can also set it so that each of us gets email when someone comments. Anyone can post a new entry any time they have an announcement or gig or new recording. We can store the recordings on the server.
It has built in RSS and I know I'd like to be notified when someone posts a comment so it's easier to stay in the loop.

No objections from me. Do we have to pay? I spent sometime trying to get wordpress working on our site with no luck. I uploaded the entire program file to our root/main directory and followed the install instructions but no luck. I'm not sure about some things, I might need to talk to Peter about MySQL settings and .php files. I'm in way over my head.
i like oldin's idea...much like his blog...and mamakin's blog (that's tammy's)...i like the way it's going...
ipadm has his own blog too and he posts thoughts and video...maybe it's something we could do as well, which will keep us from taxing pete's server...
ultimately, i think this would allow each of us a forum to post rants, announcements, questions, etc...if we can't post mp3s or videos directly, we could certainly include links to them (which we could upload to the website or simply to pete's server)...

Blogger is free, though you may have to sign up for a google account to use it (also free). Den has a blog on there as well that he used for photography.
It can host pics, but no vids or mp3. YouTube is good for sharing vids, of course, and you can just embed that in the post.
Best of all for me - my company doesn't block blogger!

Sorry for the absence, much going on!
I am happy to help with ideas for a Web site, podcast, whatever. I know most of the technology out there.
Speaking of things going on, I played a couple of gigs this weekend with the cover band I joined. They went pretty well. Funny thing happened though. The keyboardist Googled me and he came to the gig yesterday and said "you know Barry Sames?" I cracked up laughing. This guy is from the Philly area and played with Barry for a while. Crazy huh?

I'm not pushing for any direction, just continuation and would like to see what is the best format for us. As I understand it, wordpress would allow us to post .mp3 and video and whatever we wanted. Space on servers isn't a big deal these days unless your going into the Tb range, right IPADM?
Seaking of wordpress, when you get a chance IPADM would you check out the link below and give your opinion on wether you think it would be easy to use and install on our site and what may be the avantages/disadvantages relative to blogger? ... thanx.
Tom's company doesn't block the Javelin website do they?

What link?
My old blog was in Wordpress, it's a great blog but it's not a forum.
What is the goal? What do we want to site to be?
My new blog is in SquareSpace.

The link I will attach to my name again below.
You can enable commenting with wordpress similar to what we have here, making it a "forum"?
I just want to try running it from the Javelin website to see if it's better than blogger or worse. The ultimate goal being any one of us can upload whatever files we want and comment.

Wordpress can work but I am not sure it's ideal.
There are two ways to use Wordpress:
Wordpress.com
Hosted solution, no server administration required. Must pay a monthly fee.
Wordpress.org
You must provide a server, server administration skill required. Free.

Option 2 is what I'm trying to do and have got as far as uploading the program into our root directory. Havn't had a chance to figure out how to install it.
Anybody ever heard of groove shark? check it out (link below), pretty good for listening to albums.

Gary H Murphy: Former President Jimmy Carter, if I disagree with a policy or a given point of view with any one even President Obama, it doesn't mean I'm a racist. Jimma, honestly how can you say this and expect us to take you seriously?????
Jeff Thinschmidt
1: Obviously, criticizing policy has nothing to do with racism
2: Taking anything Jimi says seriously about race, at his age, demographic and present position is foolish.
3: Making rude outbursts at town halls and in congress is not how to solve problems.
4: The way to solve problems is to work together, not by acting childish.
5: There is more fear mongering and finger pointing being offered by the opposition than there are solutions and recommendations based on factual information.
6: If you’re tired of hearing the right bash the president, get used to it, he’ll be around for another 7.5 years!
7. God bless America, and our democratically elected leader of the free world!

New York (September 23, 2009)— The nominations for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum were announced today. The twelve nominees are: ABBA, Darlene Love, Donna Summer, Genesis, Jimmy Cliff, KISS, Laura Nyro, LL Cool J, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Chantels, The Hollies, and The Stooges.
Jeff Ross was my frickin hero in grade school. They used to have the flash pots and everything for the band RACE at the lodge. Can you imagine that today? 8ft flames? I nearly shit when I heard him play strutter. How the hell does it to it, I thought.
Then one time, as if I was talking to the greatest rock star of all time (very very nervous), I got the courage up to ask him how he got his long hair. "Can I ask you a question? How did you get that long hair?". He replied: "Are you kidding me kid?, I grew it".
Of course I knew that, but what I meant to say, or thought I was saying, was, how did you get your parents to allow you to grow it.. LOL

Too funny! These last posts represent the type of content that has truly fueled this forum. Dig it my brothers...
So if there are 12 nominees for the Hall - how many get in? If it were 3 I'd select:
Genesis
Kiss
The Stooges
if I had one more to squeek in it'd be the RHCPs. What say you all?
Did Jeff Ross have blonde hair? If yes, I seem to also remember a band (could have been RACE) that played before a showing of Rocky Horror at that theater in the sticks that used to play it when we were in H.S. I remember them playing AC/DC and even though I wasn't allowing myself to like them in 1980 because of my New Wave/Punk elitism - I can still recall the impact that seeing those pure rock riffs live had on me then. I HAD to try that shit. And thanks to my brothers on this cast - I did.
p.s. - and now JBA is pimpin' the Rick James look on his Facebook. LOL! (hey dad - how did Uncle JBA grow his hair that long...)

lemmie...no, you're thinking of Stage Door Cartoon...RACE was Jeff Ross, Chris Angerman, (first name) Campanella, and Fred Ertel...i never saw SDC, but i heard they were pretty good...
as for jeff ross, he was the fucker that joe gilday sold the gibson explorer to...you remember, the one i asked him to hold for 30 minutes while i went home to get permission from parents to buy it...i still hate joe fucking gilday...
